MsBrains (ms-brains):

5 questions! Please check my work!? I will medal. ^-^ (See attached files)

OpenStudy (youngstudier):

Uhm, so what do you need help with? ^u^

MsBrains (ms-brains):

OpenStudy (♪chibiterasu):

The 1 is positive so you have to subtract on both sides.

OpenStudy (♪chibiterasu):

So what do you think the actual answer would be?

OpenStudy (youngstudier):

@Ms-Brains , what they mean is that you have to subtract 1 from each side of the equation. :P

MsBrains (ms-brains):

So it would be B then? or it could be C ..?

MsBrains (ms-brains):

@YoungStudier

OpenStudy (youngstudier):

Uhm, no, not quite cx So let's just look at the equation at the start: 3x + 1 = 2y What do you think is the first step to solving the equation? :)

MsBrains (ms-brains):

Subtract 1 from both sides. Sorry I was called away. @YoungStudier

OpenStudy (youngstudier):

Yes so now it would be: 3x = 2y - 1 What should we do next to get -1 alone on one side?

MsBrains (ms-brains):

Divide both sides by three?

OpenStudy (youngstudier):

Uhm, no, not quite. We want to get -1 alone on one side So what could we do to transfer 2y over to the 3x side?

MsBrains (ms-brains):

Add 1 to both sides? o.O idk..

OpenStudy (youngstudier):

Uhm, no. :P We wanna subtract each side by 2y in order to get -1 alone.

MsBrains (ms-brains):

Oh. xc

OpenStudy (youngstudier):

It's alright c: You're getting it. So now the equation would be: 3x - 2y = 2y - 2y - 1

OpenStudy (youngstudier):

And so that will get rid of 2y on the -1 side So now the equation is: 3x - 2y = -1 Does that make sense on how we got that? c:

MsBrains (ms-brains):

Yeah, I understand now. Thanks! I got like 3 more, if you could help?

OpenStudy (youngstudier):

I can try. c:

MsBrains (ms-brains):

Do you know how to solve these kind of problems?

OpenStudy (youngstudier):

Yup ^.^ I literally just learned about this cx So what do you think the answer is?

MsBrains (ms-brains):

I think it's B..

MsBrains (ms-brains):

But, I never worked on these kind of problems

OpenStudy (youngstudier):

Uhmmm, you're on the right track. These are relatively simple.

OpenStudy (youngstudier):

The line intercepts (goes through) an exact point on the coordinate plane, or graph, whichever you prefer :P

MsBrains (ms-brains):

Oh, so it would be C. Because the line goes through the -1?

OpenStudy (youngstudier):

Uhm, yeah it does..... O.o Another wonky question.

MsBrains (ms-brains):

I've narrowed it down to either A or C. What do you think it is?

OpenStudy (youngstudier):

Uhm, if I remember correctly, the line has to go through the bold black lines with all the numbers labeled on them. And those would we the x and y axis intercepts. So I DON'T think it would be A or C.

MsBrains (ms-brains):

So it would be D then. But I don't understand how it would be that. ;-;

OpenStudy (youngstudier):

Yes, D would be correct. Uhm, I'll PM you a math cast link from my lesson. It's a little different from what you're doing, but it gets the same conclusion in the end and may help you understand this better c:

MsBrains (ms-brains):

Okay. Thanks. cx

OpenStudy (youngstudier):

No problem c:

OpenStudy (youngstudier):

Is there anything else you need help with?

MsBrains (ms-brains):

Yeah c: I think it's C.

OpenStudy (youngstudier):

Uhm, I'm not sure how to explain this one, but try watching the Math Cast as it has a problem similar to this one. ^-^

MsBrains (ms-brains):

Okay!. Last one

OpenStudy (youngstudier):

I gotta refresh my memory on how to do this, the math cast explains it xD One sec.

OpenStudy (youngstudier):

Ooooh okay, so to find the x intercept we need to turn the y into a 0

OpenStudy (youngstudier):

So we started with 6x - 4y = -12 Now we have: 6x - 4 * 0 = -12

MsBrains (ms-brains):

So we need to simplify to find out what x is..?

OpenStudy (youngstudier):

Yup ^.^ Following the Order of Operations, we would do the multiplication first with 4 * 0

MsBrains (ms-brains):

x -2 I already solved it

OpenStudy (youngstudier):

LOL XD

OpenStudy (youngstudier):

Yup, so now we have x

MsBrains (ms-brains):

Haha, okay now what? :P

OpenStudy (youngstudier):

Now we need to use the starting equation again. And this time turn x into 0 so that it is 6*0 - 4y = -12

OpenStudy (youngstudier):

So that we can find the value of y ^.^

MsBrains (ms-brains):

Gimme a sec to solve it

MsBrains (ms-brains):

y=3

OpenStudy (youngstudier):

Yup! ^.^

MsBrains (ms-brains):

So it's A?

OpenStudy (youngstudier):

Yuppers! :D

MsBrains (ms-brains):

Awesome! Thanks so much. :3

OpenStudy (youngstudier):

No problem! :3
