So I have to write a story that is based on a real event that shows that I was a hero, but I have a horrible memory and don't know what to write about. May someone please give me some ideas. Thanks.

it can be something as simple as returning what someone dropped to cpr. Obviously it cant be boring, but if you and your friends ever had a scary moment or memory then use that
