plz help with 7th grade math Multiply (−4)(−2)(−5).

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I know its 40. but is it -40 or 40 ?

Theoceangirl (the_ocean_girl):

It would be -40! When you multiply the first 2 negative numbers, it will be positive. Multiplying by a 3rd negative number will make the product negative

OpenStudy (anonymous):

-4 times -2 is positive 8, because a negative times a negative makes the product a positive. a positive 8 times a negative 5 would be -40 because opposite values, such as negative times positive will always be a negative product.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

-40 because when there is an even amount of negative numbers it is positive but if it is odd it is negative always it helps with stuff like that :D

OpenStudy (xmissalycatx):

Well first of all, when you multiply two negatives you get a positive, but since you're multiplying the positive by another negative it would be negative. it is -40.
