http://prntscr.com/9cpw1r The style of language used in this speech would be appropriate for which of these occasions? A funeral A lecture A debate A conversation I was thinking B on this, but it could also be C. They're kind of similar options.

OpenStudy (tanabugg):

Debate: A formal discussion on a particular topic in a public meeting or legislative assembly, in which opposing arguments are put forward.

OpenStudy (leahhhmorgannn):

But there's not really an opposing argument that is put forward. There's almost no room to debate to me.

OpenStudy (tanabugg):

Lecture: An educational talk to an audience, especially to students in a university or college.

OpenStudy (tanabugg):

Looking at that, what would you pick

OpenStudy (leahhhmorgannn):

Well, I was also thinking A because of the mood of the speech. But I'd still pick B of those two.

OpenStudy (tanabugg):

I don't think it'd be A

OpenStudy (leahhhmorgannn):

Why do you say that?

OpenStudy (leahhhmorgannn):

@tanabugg

OpenStudy (tanabugg):

I'm not sure I just don't feel like it would be

OpenStudy (leahhhmorgannn):

So what do you say is the answer? Because I'm still torn.

OpenStudy (leahhhmorgannn):

@Atsie

OpenStudy (leahhhmorgannn):

@aaronq

OpenStudy (leahhhmorgannn):

I don't tend to trust that. I saw it earlier.

Atsie (atsie):

No debate starts off so sorrowfully and nor is any lecture this weak. A conversation seems unordinary in this sense as far as how one talks to another. I would definitely go with A, I haven't a doubt.

OpenStudy (leahhhmorgannn):

See, I thought A a bit because of the solemn mood. And how he seems to be honoring the fallen.

OpenStudy (leahhhmorgannn):

@just_one_last_goodbye

OpenStudy (just_one_last_goodbye):

yes?

OpenStudy (leahhhmorgannn):

I'm not sure on this answer, still. I have a few friends who say it's definitely B, one here who says A, and one who linked an answer that said B. So I'm confused.

OpenStudy (leahhhmorgannn):

Oh wait, the linked one said C. So we have advocates for A, B, and C.

Atsie (atsie):

@leahhhmorgannn you got me singin the ABC song while doing math homework and waiting on somebody to reply.... :D What is your guess @just_one_last_goodbye ?

Atsie (atsie):

@leahhhmorgannn It looks like he went away.

Atsie (atsie):

Is there anything I can do to help you some more?

OpenStudy (leahhhmorgannn):

Well, could you agree with it being a lecture? a lecture is typically delivered in front of an audience and it can be a speech that brings forth warning. Lincoln delivered the speech at a dedication of a cemetery, so not necessarily a funeral. Plus, he did it to mainly warn people that, if we did not keep an eye out for our nation, something would go horribly wrong (which it has, but I'll stay out of politics for now).

Atsie (atsie):

I suppose that makes more sense now that you pointed that out. It probably could be a lecture in fact.

OpenStudy (leahhhmorgannn):

Okay, so I think that settles this question then. Thanks for all your help + everyone else's.

Atsie (atsie):

Sure, no problem :)))

OpenStudy (studyguy2019tim):

It is not a lecture B, I got it wrong. :} Thinking it must have been debate?
