OpenStudy (arbyj):

i need help solving these systems by using elimination. (HELPER WILL GET A METAL) 8x+9y=15 5x-2y=17

OpenStudy (mathmale):

If you're to eliminate one of the variables (x or y), you generally have to multiply one or both of the two equations in such a way as to obtain equal coefficients in the two equations for either x or y. For example, multiplying the first equation by 2 makes the y term of that equation equal 18y, and multiplying the 2nd eq'n by 9 makes the y term of that equation equal -18y. That's good, because y will disappear when you combine the two modified equations. Do this, please, and see if you can now solve the resulting one equation forx.

OpenStudy (arbyj):

oh okay, thank you!

OpenStudy (mathmale):

How'd you do? Were you able to find the value of x? y?
