Amanda earned a score of 940 on a national achievement test that was normally distributed. The mean test score was 850 with a standard deviation of 100. What proportion of students had a higher score than Amanda? Use your z table.

While not strictly necessary, drawing and labeling a normal curve might help you visualize this problem. Mark the mean, as well as 1, 2 and 3 standard deviations above the mean. Use the Draw utility.

Hint: You must find the z-score corresponding to a score of 940 when the mean is 850 and the s. d. 100.
Then you must find the AREA of the normal curve to the right of raw score 940.
