-HELP- Can someone help me write a thesis statement on Letter from Birmingham Jail. It just has to be one sentence! I will give medal, fan, and whatever!
Do you have it right now? (The letter)
Yes here it is
@MysticalFlames can you help me?
hey yeah sorry one sec
Sorry I gotta go, I'll help when i get back
okay thank you (:
to write a thesis statement, you need to make a claim about some thing. for instance, "chocolate is the best candy ever because its delicious" you would then go on to explain why.
My teacher said it has to look somewhat like this... In "Letter from Birmingham jail", Dr Martin Luther King jr, uses stylistic devices such as (language element), (language element), (structure element), and (structure element) in order to (why it matters statement) the parenthesis is were I insert those things.
please let me know if that is confusing
so what she did is give you like a "stencil" or "fill in the blank" statement. she basically did all the work for you. u just hav to find which structure element goes, where, why it matters, etc. does that make sense?
Yes.. but where it says language element.. I have to insert a language element from the letter.
they wont legit say "language element" in the letter, so what you hav to do is determine which element it is. figurative, imaginative, etc
Ohh! I see what you mean. I have to choose two - metaphors - similes -personification - allusions - connotative language - Rhetorical questions - alliteration
yep :]
Ok so can you help me find two (:
shurr
Im soo horrible at this kind of stuff ha
its okay, dont worry. ill help :)
would this be one... I guess it is easy for those who have never felt the stinging darts of segregation to say wait. like metaphor
OR this one.. Let us all hope that the dark clouds of racial prejudice will soon pass away
I have this one for allusion to a degree academic freedom is a reality today because Socrates practiced civil disobedience.
@tootzrll are you still there?
ya soooo sorry wqas working on hw
@tootzrll thats ok haha! i was working on other hw also
haha ok
can you still help me? if you are still busy thats okay! (:
i think i can
Thank you soo much! are any of the 3 i picked out above any good?
i think idk...
@tootzrll I got it no worries! I already filled it in. The real problem I have is the structure element part..
okay just the structure element?
yup! I got the rest after that! I have to pick two: - clear claim - strategic support - tone
okay lemme see...
I think tone and clear claim would probably be the easiest two to pick tbh lol
ya, those look like the best options
yeahh but with tone do they mean the tone of the whole letter?
noooottt nescessarily... just in that statement
which statement?
the last one u sent
the allusion?
I have this one for allusion to a degree academic freedom is a reality today because Socrates practiced civil disobedience.
^ that one
oh okay got it!
then i have to find the clear claim for the metaphor i picked out?
i think so...
ohh okayy
oh wait!
The tone and clear claim would be for the.. (why it matters statement).
I have a list of "why it matters statement" I just have to pick one out
have i confused you yet? sorrry
no its fine. for the why it matters thing i think u need to explain legit why the letter matters
i think... idk
to encourage the church leaders to take action for equal rights
does that sound good?
yep!
ok so im prettty sure i have to find the tone and clear claim of that sentence
yup u got it! i think...
lol my teacher will correct me if im wrong. Soo i think the tone is more determined right?
the tone would be like HOW THIS SENTENCE TRANSITIONED INTO ME TALKING TO SCREAMING. so find the "voice" of the letter, and thats the tone kinda sorta
haha i think i got you Determined, driven, purposefulness, and dedication
yup! u got it!
yay! how do i find the clear claim tho?
tbh idk what ur teacher means by "clear cla- WAIT
........wait?
by clear claim i think she means... okay ya! so what u need to do is find out h\what the letters' claim is. what are they claiming?
wait wait in the sentence " to encourage the church leaders to take action for equal rights" or the whole letter?
the whole letter. what is it claiming to be true?
That they want justice ???
andd equal rights
wouldnt the claim be that all people are the same, no matter their color? or something along those lines...?
The clear claim would be that all people are the same, no matter what their color is. Does that sound good?
and that all people deserve equal rights, despite their color. what about that?
great! thank you soo much! i would give you a thousand medals if I could (:
awwww thanks im glad i could help :)
(: here is the finale thing In "Letter from Birmingham jail", Dr Martin Luther King jr, uses stylistic devices such as metaphors example: dark clouds of racial prejudice will soon pass away and the deep fog of misunderstanding will be lifted, allusion example: to a degree academic freedom is a reality today because Socrates practiced civil disobedience. , The tone would be Determined, driven, purposefulness, and dedication and clear claimAll people are the same and they all deserve equal rights, despite their color - in order to to encourage the church leaders to take action for equal rights
waiitt maybe i did something wrong.. that is a paragraph not a sentence
haha oh well... im going with it. Thank you again!
