Atsie (atsie):

Need some help with French. Can anyone listen to the audio below and make out what is being said? http://www.laits.utexas.edu/tex/aud.html?m=virr1_lc1&mt=mp3&ti=listening%20comprehension:%20virr1,%20q1&st=listening%20comp:%20virr1,%20q1

OpenStudy (♪chibiterasu):

il est professeur

Atsie (atsie):

Ooh finally someone came to my rescue! I actually got that one right and I had guessed on it. Thank you very much. Would you be able to help with four more at all? I'd really appreciate it!

OpenStudy (♪chibiterasu):

I can try :x

Atsie (atsie):

http://www.laits.utexas.edu/tex/aud.html?m=virr1_lc2&mt=mp3&ti=listening%20comprehension:%20virr1,%20q2&st=listening%20comp:%20virr1,%20q2 I can hear étudiants. which is translated students, but I don't understand the rest.

Atsie (atsie):

Is it il and then something else?

OpenStudy (♪chibiterasu):

'ils sont' to identify plural

Atsie (atsie):

"ils"..ahh, tricked me. okay, here is another one if you can maybe make this out. http://www.laits.utexas.edu/tex/aud.html?m=virr1_lc3&mt=mp3&ti=listening%20comprehension:%20virr1,%20q3&st=listening%20comp:%20virr1,%20q3

OpenStudy (♪chibiterasu):

you are right about etudiants

Atsie (atsie):

Good. :)

Atsie (atsie):

Something about being very smart, but I don't understand it precisely.

OpenStudy (♪chibiterasu):

yeah, thats it. "intelligent"

OpenStudy (♪chibiterasu):

"nous sommes tres" saying "we are very smart

OpenStudy (♪chibiterasu):

"tres" is always easy to identify, when people say it they say it with a really strong accent

Atsie (atsie):

I listened to that one to death and it sounded like "lu sante' " or something. Thats good to know, thank you. I'm a complete dunce at this and the way I am taught it is nerve racking. Okay, I got two more and then I'll get outa your hair. http://www.laits.utexas.edu/tex/aud.html?m=virr1_lc4&mt=mp3&ti=listening%20comprehension:%20virr1,%20q4&st=listening%20comp:%20virr1,%20q4

Atsie (atsie):

Back to the student thing again I think

OpenStudy (♪chibiterasu):

yeah, etudiant. what do you think the first part is?

Atsie (atsie):

Is it starting with "tres" again?

Atsie (atsie):

It sounds like "tris" almost or even "dris" but those aren't really existing words in french.

OpenStudy (♪chibiterasu):

sorry i was afk. It is saying 'je', as in me. When you say "I am" how do you write it in french?

Atsie (atsie):

Ugh, this is embarrassing but I don't really know. I read it somewhere recently but forgot... :c

OpenStudy (♪chibiterasu):

"je suis etudiant" je suis = i am

Atsie (atsie):

Oh, ok. I thought it was something different. Isn't there another letter in the sentence though... "Like I am A student?" Not just "I am student" or is that the way French is naturally?

OpenStudy (♪chibiterasu):

when there is a vowel after the last consonant of the word you pronounce it suis = swee but with "Etudiant" you pronounce the last 's' suis etudiant = swees eh-too-dyahnt

OpenStudy (♪chibiterasu):

idk how to write out the pronunciation of "je" its really weird. its like a combination of 'j' and 'y'

Atsie (atsie):

I'm actually trying to say it out loud. Its easier seeing it spelled in English bit by bit. I actually was saying it like "j - a" with a subtle addition of the "e" although more than likely it was wrong, but who knows.

OpenStudy (♪chibiterasu):

this one is a question

Atsie (atsie):

Is it "are you french?"

OpenStudy (♪chibiterasu):

yes!

Atsie (atsie):

Yayy! Okay, so it sounds like its tres again though, but tres is "very" How is it being said?

OpenStudy (♪chibiterasu):

tu est, not tres. you can tell its two vowels so: tu est francais?

Atsie (atsie):

Oh, its "you are french?" I said it. slightly backwards. Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! I really appreciate it!

OpenStudy (♪chibiterasu):

np

OpenStudy (♪chibiterasu):

:)

Atsie (atsie):

Are you on here everyday, because I just might come to you for French all the time. Everybody else is like talented at ignoring me when it comes to this subject.

OpenStudy (♪chibiterasu):

most of the time. im only gonna be on like every few days for a weeks starting tuesday-ish because of winter break

OpenStudy (♪chibiterasu):

a few weeks*

OpenStudy (♪chibiterasu):

we're going to disney to see the last christmass light show at hollywood studios, which has been going on for decades and this is the last year :(

OpenStudy (♪chibiterasu):

we live in florida so my family is a bunch of disney dorks xD (im mostly just into the movies)

OpenStudy (♪chibiterasu):

but wwhenever im on you can come to me, im pretty good at french and im native spanish so its really easy for me

Atsie (atsie):

Oh, alright. Well I'm sure I'll manage to survive :) Thanks for everything again. Whaat? That sucks! Always a last day for everything. The only thing I ever truly enjoyed on Disney was Sonny with a Chance....I got bombarded with alot of other Disney nonsense and it made me a immature nutjob....I don't like Disney for the most part at all anymore though. I'm a reformed Disney dork. When you do go though, enjoy yourself especially if its the last time!

OpenStudy (♪chibiterasu):

ive been going to disney since birth and well keep going for quite a while, we always renew our annual passes. and thanks ^^

Atsie (atsie):

Well, tell Mickey I said hi nest time :) And no problem XD

Atsie (atsie):

OpenStudy (♪chibiterasu):

Atsie (atsie):
