OpenStudy (safyousuff97):

The table below represents the distance of a car from its destination as a function of time: Time (hours) x Distance (miles) y 0 900 1 850 2 800 3 750 Part A: What is the y-intercept of the function, and what does this tell you about the car? (4 points) Part B: Calculate the average rate of change of the function represented by the table between x = 1 to x = 3, and tell what the average rate represents. (4 points) Part C: What would be the domain of this function if the car traveled the same rate until it reached its destination? (2 points)

OpenStudy (tkhunny):

Great. Let's see how far you've gotten. I would first plot the points. Is it a straight line? Is there some other familiar shape?

OpenStudy (safyousuff97):

i haven't done anything will you be able to work along with me? since i'm rly bad in algebra

OpenStudy (anonymous):

do you not know wehre to start or what do you understanfd?

OpenStudy (safyousuff97):

not all i'm clueless on what to do sorry

OpenStudy (astrophysics):

Hey, so essentially what you need to know is how to graph, so plot those points and make a line through it (connecting the dots). This line gives you an equation in the form of \(y=mx+b\) where m is the slope, that is the rate of change, and b here is the y - intercept (where the line crosses the y-axis) See if you can plot these points and make a graph first and we can continue from there :)

OpenStudy (astrophysics):

We'll use x for time and y for distance so your points are (x,y) as in your table

OpenStudy (safyousuff97):

is it x 0, y 900

OpenStudy (safyousuff97):

@desmarie

OpenStudy (desmarie):

what part do you need help on?

OpenStudy (safyousuff97):

all of it i have no idea what to do sorry this may take a while since i'm not that good in math

OpenStudy (desmarie):

I am not that great either but I will still try

OpenStudy (safyousuff97):

thank u so much :)

OpenStudy (desmarie):

does it come with a pic?

OpenStudy (safyousuff97):

nope sorry

OpenStudy (astrophysics):

Hey did you try what I said? I mean you can't keep saying I have no idea, it requires a little effort.

OpenStudy (desmarie):

that's ok the numbers under miles are they options or do you have to use them all?

OpenStudy (safyousuff97):

yeah i answered back x o, y 900

OpenStudy (astrophysics):

Yes, that's one point now can you graph that, you may use the draw tool or desmos

OpenStudy (safyousuff97):

ok|dw:1450047411810:dw|

OpenStudy (safyousuff97):

how do i do 900

OpenStudy (astrophysics):

You can let your graph go up by 200, so we can approximate |dw:1450047495763:dw|
