The school took in $875 at the bake-sale fundraiser. Sixty-eight percent of the money came from cupcake sales. How much money did the school make selling cupcakes?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

You just need to understand how to take a percentage of a number, like a tip at a restaurant. 68%=.68 875*.68 = How much they made selling cupcakes. Alternatively, if you wanted to find out the rest, you could do: 875*.32 =

what? how did you get 32?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Well a percentage is just the number out of 100. So I subtracted 68 from 100. This would be used in figuring out discounts or just generally percentages off. Like, 20% off of a shirt. That was just a caveat, the only thing you need for the answer is 875*.68=
