Carlos went out to a restaurant for dinner. He tipped 25% of his bill, which brought the sum of the dinner bill plus the tip to $45. How much was the original bill?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I really don't get it

OpenStudy (anonymous):

11 dollars and 25 cents

OpenStudy (witty_roger):

see $45 includes the tip and the bill..so lets say ur bill is 100% and ur tip is 25%...so we get an equation that $45 is 125% of ur original bill...

OpenStudy (witty_roger):

to write in equations...125% is writtten as 5/4....so 45=5/4*(Original bill)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Thats wrong Themicronic it can only be $20.00 $33.75 $36.00 $56.25

OpenStudy (witty_roger):

solve it to get original bill as $36

OpenStudy (witty_roger):

thanx for the medal..:)
