When writing a research paper you want to start off with a very broad topic, then narrow it down. "How to create an algebraic algorithm" is defiantly not a research paper, it is a how to. And "The life cycle of an ostrich" would not be good either. Yes, if you do not know much about them you will have to research them but that is not what a research paper is looking for. However, it depends on your grade. Which do you think out of "The history of the civilized world" and "The components of a good classroom?"
