Simply the rational expression and show the steps. x^2-5xy-14y2 over x^2-5xy+6y2 I Have tried and i just haven't been able to get an answer

OpenStudy (welshfella):

we need to factor both parts x^2 - 5xy -14y^2 will factor to something like (x + ay)(x + by) where a and b are numbers to be found a * b will equal -14 and a + b will equal -5

OpenStudy (welshfella):

Hint:- -7 * 2 and -2 * 7 will = -14 we have to decide which one it from the fact that a + b = -5 can you see which one is correct?

OpenStudy (welshfella):

add -7 to 2 and add 7 to -2 what are the results?
