OpenStudy (sparklyme):

One number is 14 more than another. The sum of the two numbers is 20. Find the numbers.

OpenStudy (campbell_st):

so let x be the 1st number, then the 2nd number is x + 14 so now you can set up an equation to solve x + x + 14 = 20 just collect like terms then solve for x.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i know no one wants to do this by guessing and checking, but that is what i would do

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@campbell_st street method works very quickly though

OpenStudy (sparklyme):

Thanks @campbell_st! So, just to clarify, I would insert two different random numbers (reasonable ones) in place of the x's?
