- Not going to take over Cuba after so it would remain independent (not everyone was pro-expansionism)
Platt Amendment-
- Gave us Cuban territory Guantanamo bay (permanent naval base)
- Had right to intervene and set our marines and change to our likings, Cuba couldn't conduct down foreign policy
- 1933 disavowed by Roosevelt
