The difference between body cells and gametes

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Body cells are diploid, while gametes are haploid. This means that gametes carry half the amount of chromosomes than a neighboring body cell. This half-nature allows gametes to merge into a full whole during reproduction (i.e. fertilized egg).
