All my life Fortunado has lived across from me, and all my life he has been of more wealth than I. He and I were both born in the same week. So of course it was only in his conceded nature that he would have a bigger and grander birthday celebration than I each year. As an adolescent I hated the way he acted about his wealth but I never said anything about it. When we attended primary school he always wooed people with his money, he would pay off our teachers for grades or bring in high-end toys to our classmates to ensure his popularity. I could have done the same but in my up bringing I was taught that my true friends would appreciate me not my family’s wealth. This was just the way things were during are adolescent years he was proud, conceded and looked down on others with less fortune than he.
