How did the Olmec influence Maya and Aztec civilization? Since the great age of Olmec civilization came later than the Maya or Aztec empires, the Olmec could not have influenced them. As a Native American culture, the Olmec taught the Maya and Aztec pacifism and good stewardship of the earth and its resources. The Olmec writing system was the basis for Maya writing, and Olmec ball games were developed by both the Maya and Aztec. The Olmec technology of wheels and horse-drawn chariots spread to all Pre-Columbian civilization
