How do i find slope intercept form?
@pooja195
y=mx+b <---slope intercept form
how would i find it from this equation , 8x + 6y = 12
Ok bascially all you need to start with is subtracting 8x from both sides when you do this what do you get?
6y = 4?
No 8x remains \[\huge~\rm~ 6y=8x+12 \] Any ideas on what's next? :)
not really
sorry i dont get this stuff at all
Think....we want to isolate y what step would be needed to get y by itself?
umm subtract it by something? i really am not sure
We would divide \[\huge~\rm~ \frac{ 6y=8x+12 }{ 6~~~~~~6~~~~~6 }\]
ok so by divind we would have y = 1.3x + 2 ?
so y = 4/3x + 2 ?
We would leave the slope as a fraction :-) y=8/6x+2 Well done also I kinda did this part for you But when i mentioned subtract 8x from both sides it would've looked like this \[\huge~\rm~\bf~6y=12-8x\] I kinda put in the slope intercept form for you :P But yeah good job ^_^
so you just kinda rearange the numbers around to put them in slope intercept form? how do you know which number goes there? im kinda confused on the - 8 from both sides thing
Ok let's work on that :) \[\huge~\rm~\bf~8x + 6y = 12 \] We subtract 8x to that we can isolate y \[\huge~\rm~\bf~8x-8x + 6y = 12-8x \] \[\huge~\rm~\bf~6y = 12-8x \] We know that slope intercept form is y=mx+b so we can easily arrange the numbers and actually there was an error in the arranging my fault. 6y=-8x+12 Do you understand ? the would also change our answer :P y=-8/6x+2
i get it now , thank you so much! do you have time for one more question?
Yes i do and yw ^_^
Which of the lines graphed in the diagram represents the equation 6x + 4y = 8? https://static.k12.com/calms_media/media/213000_213500/213152/1/dc8357ac3154c82d1c9c0b6caaa6fce0b919ca92/VHS_ALG_S1_07_L207_L307_LQ5.gif
Start by putting it into slope intercept form it'll be alot more easier to graph
ok hold on
so the slope intercept form of it is y = -3/2 + 2 ? am i right?
whoops y = -3/2x + 2
Don't simplfy the slope
y = -6/4x + 2 ?
i got . y = -1.5x + 2
so how do i find what line on the graph that would be?
Ok let's work on it together :/ 6x + 4y = 8 Fist step is to subtract 6x from both sides 4y=8-6x now we need it in slope intercept form so re-arrange the numbers 4y=-6x+8 now divide everything by 4 what equation do we have?
y = -1.5x + 2
Leave the slope as a fraction...try again
y = -6/4x + 2 ?
Good :) Now to graph it slope=rise over run
In the case the slope is -6 so we go down 6 and over 4
so it would be line d?
Well done :)
alright thank you so much!!!! i would never have gotten this done without your help!
haha yw ^_^
