Okay, no problem. Because we have two variables, we can't just use one equation to find what they are, we have to use the other equation to remove one of the variables. This question is nice because we have one equation where y=... so we can just replace the y in the other equation with this:

$y=2x-4$
$y+3x=1$
$(2x-4)+3x=1$

Do you see what I've done so far? If you understand it, simplify that last equation and tell me what $x$ is.
