i needed to edit this question :p

OpenStudy (calculusxy):

2(x^2 + 8x + 12) let's work with x^2 + 8x + 12: 1, 12 2, 6 <-- that works x^2 + 2x + 6x + 12 x(x + 2) 6(x + 2) combine those with the 2 that's outside of the parenthesis in the beginning: 2(x+6)(x+2)

OpenStudy (calculusxy):

i first found the gcf of all the terms in the expression, okay so far?

OpenStudy (calculusxy):

so i put the gcf of 2 on the outside of the parenthesis and all the other factors i need to get to the original expression in the inside of the parenthesis (use distributive property if you need to see the original expression) so 2x^2/2 = x^2 , 16x/2 = 8x , 24/2= 12 2(x^2 + 8x + 12)

OpenStudy (calculusxy):

ok?
