How are triangle proofs used to prove other properties of geometric figures?

Here's an example. To prove that the diagonals of a rhombus are perpendicular, you prove two internal triangles congruent. Then, from corresponding parts of the triangles, two adjacent angles are congruent and also supplementary which makes them right angles. Then, the lines are perpendicular.
