An architect planned to construct two similar stone pyramid structures in a park. The figure below shows the front view of the pyramids in her plan, but there is an error in the dimensions:
OpenStudy (anonymous):
Which of the following changes should she make to the length of side CB to correct her error?
OpenStudy (anonymous):
A) change the length of side CB to 13 feet
B)change the length of side CB to 11 feet
C)change the length of side CB to 8 feet
D)change the length of side CB to 8.5 feet

OpenStudy (welshfella):
for them to be similar the ratio of corresponding sides must be the same
PR/AC = 7.5 / 6 and
PQ/AB = 5/4
both equal to 1.25

OpenStudy (welshfella):
So RQ/CB should be = 1.25 also
OpenStudy (anonymous):
so would it be d?
OpenStudy (welshfella):
what does 10/8.5 come to?
OpenStudy (welshfella):
work it out on your calculator
OpenStudy (welshfella):
is 10/8.5 = 1.25?

I got 1.17
OpenStudy (welshfella):
so?
OpenStudy (welshfella):
is d the answer?
OpenStudy (anonymous):
im so confused :(
OpenStudy (welshfella):
well 10/CD must be eqaul to 1.25 ( which is the ratio of the other 2 sides in the triangles)
so you need to find which length of CD gives you this ratio.
it can't be 8.5 because 10/8.5 = 1.17 not 1.25
so try option c
= 10/8
what does that equal?
