Can someone please help explain how to solve this? I'll fan and medal I'm honestly terrible at these and don't really understand how to do them fully. I do online school and the teachers don't always get back to me right away.
Let's start with your function: -10x + y = 4 We have to solve for y-values, given the x-values from the table. To make it easier for us to solve for 'y', we need to put "10x" on the right side of the equation. Do you know how to do that?
Rearrange the formula, to find y. Then sub in your x's t find each answer
No I don't, sorry
and so on
Does that make sense?
No, worries. We are here to help ^_^ Okay so to arrange the equation in terms of y, we need to put 10x on the right side.. so in order to do that, we add both sides by "10x" \(\sf \color{red}{10x +} (-10x) + y =\color{red}{10x +} 4\), what will you get? @aworldofcolor
Would it be zero?
0 + y = 10x + 4, so y= 10x + 4 :) Now, let us substitute your x- values from the table to your equation. I'll do the first one, and I want you to try the second one, okay? so first is \(\sf \color{red}{x= -2}\) sub it into the equation: \(\sf y= 10\color{red}{x} + 4\\\sf y= 10\color{red}{(-2)} + 4\\y=-20+4\\y=-16\) your turn, do it with \(\sf \color{red}{x= -1}\) :) Just follow what I did. If you are stuck, don't hesitate to ask. Tell me what you will get.
I got -6 as my answer for it
Let's see: \(\sf y= 10\color{red}{x} + 4\\\sf y= 10\color{red}{(-1)} + 4\\y=-10+4\\y=-6\) seems like you are right :) Try doing it with the rest of the x-values.
Thank you so much for your help!
No problem. If you have more questions, don't hesitate to ask. Goodluck and see you around :)
