Karla's doctor recommended her daily caffeine intake stay under 400 milligrams. Today, Karla has already had 280 milligrams of caffeine. Her favorite soda contains 40 milligrams. Which of the following inequalities could be used to solve for x, the number of sodas Karla can still have today?

A.40x + 280 < 400 B.40x < 680 C.40x - 280 < 400 D.40x < 400

Well we want to be under 400. So \[\large \sf <400\] They've already had 280 so it would now be \[\large \sf 280<400\] Since they are going to have x cans of soda, the number of milligrams per soda would be next to the x and on the left side next to the 280.
