The following instance helped accomplish the his purpose to take action against racial justice by telling that the church only does one thing but intern is say that it was only allowing one race to go to the church. When he stated that " In those days the church was not merely a thermometer (strictly tells the temperature) that recorded the ideas and principles of popular opinion; it was a thermostat ( changes the temperature) the transformed the mores of society" He was trying to say instead of only allowing white people to join a church you should allow both black and white people instead of
only doing one thing. I think MLKJ was using a metaphor to say that is not fare and would it be cooler to us come together then stay apart fighting. So that saying was respected by the church and that was why the church allowed both black and white people to go to the same church.
