Seems almost like opne-ended question unless you know you are talking about LINEAR relationship. Are you - or is this a more general one (for example one quantity may in quadratic relationship with another)?

Darth's Internet find is a good source of info on this.  He apparently searched for "create-equations-in-two-or-more-variables-to-represent-relationships-between-quantities-linear-functions" ... and you could do the same, and possibly find more examples.
