OpenStudy (abby02):

a collection of dimes and nickels is worth $9.50. There are 132 coins in all. how many of each coins are there?

OpenStudy (skullpatrol):

Any ideas? :-)

OpenStudy (frozen15):

Define variables. x will be the number of dimes y will be the number of nickels x + y = ?

OpenStudy (skullpatrol):

Recall that a dime is worth 10cents/coin and a nickel is worth 5cents/coin.

OpenStudy (frozen15):

Each dime is worth 10 cents but the sum of the money is given in dollars. So, what is 10 cents written as part of a dollar. Hint, cent is a signal for hundredths. Each dime is worth .10 x dimes are worth .10x You do the nickels in the same way Each nickel is worth 5 cents which is $.05 x + y = 132, .10x + .05y = 9.50 58 dimes 74 nickels

OpenStudy (frozen15):

The sums at the end show the number of each coins there are , please medal and fan if possible :)

OpenStudy (frozen15):

just look at the equations and think and inform that the way I have gotten each value of nickels and dimes

OpenStudy (skullpatrol):

How much do you @frozen15 think the student learned by that^

OpenStudy (frozen15):

u don't think that helps? well it does , If it doesn't to you then I don't know what the problem is , I didn't give a direct answer so I'm fine , I showed the equations and showed the reason how I got each number of coins for nickels and dimes

OpenStudy (frozen15):

@abby02 if you need anymore help or information , I'm glad to help :) have a wonderful Christmas

OpenStudy (skullpatrol):

True, but YOU did all the thinking.

OpenStudy (frozen15):

What do u mean by "all the thinking"

OpenStudy (skullpatrol):

You came up with the equations.

OpenStudy (frozen15):

ooh! so u were complementing me?! I feel ashamed of my attitude now :(

OpenStudy (abby02):

Thank you very much @Frozen15 .. this help me alot have been stuck on this problem for two hours plus im not very good at math

OpenStudy (frozen15):

thanks :) @skullpatrol

OpenStudy (frozen15):

your welcome @abby02 , anytime :) I do kinda stink at math but I'm getting better at this :) I'm glad the two hours have not gotten added :) cause I helped u

OpenStudy (abby02):
