explain this to me
voluntary response could be something like putting up a poll where parents can choose to answer the question
[the key idea being that the participants choose to be part of the sample]
ok so @Vocaloid Do we both agree that a poll for the parents is a suitable answer
Why do you say that a "poll where they can choose to answer the question is best?"
A convenience sample is where a sample is drawn where it's easiest to do. For example, if there are 50 parents that come to the school, then it's most convenient to give them the survey. Is it representative of all the parents? Probably not. Things get more skewed if you happen to ask amongst your circle of friends. It's much better to do a simple random sample (SRS) by putting every parent's name in a hat and drawing out the names randomly
actually your talking about something else
I would make the poll mandatory. So have it be not too long and difficult to fill out. To select the sample, it would be best to assign every parent a number. Then have a computer randomly generate a big enough sample for things to be representative of the population
so do you agree with any three of my answers?
SRS - Randomly select parents from many high schools Convenice - Select parents form your high school Voluntary - Make the poll mandatory
`Voluntary - Make the poll mandatory` that's a contradiction if something is voluntary, then it's not mandatory
I agree with the first two though
WEll crap, how about make it open for the parents to take upon their on will
yeah voluntary would be letting them choose to return it or not this often leads to a skewed sample
ok so SRS - Randomly select parents from many high schools Convenice - Select parents form your high school Voluntary - Let the parents choose to continue the war or not continue
more like "choose to answer the survey"
