one of them has to be 888 otherwise it would be too large of a difference to actually make it to 1000
which leaves 5 eights left and only doing single eights wont make it
so that has to be an 88 as well (i hope were allowed to use a calculator otherwise im cheating :D)

so 3 eights left, and no other possibility but for them to be single eights. so the answer is 888 + 88 + 8 + 8 + 8 = 1000
