Point R divides EF¯¯¯¯¯ in the ratio 1 : 5. If the coordinates of E and F are (4, 8) and (11, 4), respectively, what are the coordinates of R to two decimal places?

OpenStudy (campbell_st):

I'll assume that the point R is between E anf F, this is known as internal division... a simple method is to plot the information... |dw:1450822227880:dw| so there are 6 units in the ratio 1:5 or 1 + 5 = 6

OpenStudy (campbell_st):

divide the vertical distance and horizontal distances between the 2 points by 6 |dw:1450822399681:dw| now apply the ratio to the vertical and horizontal parts of the interval 1 vertical unit = distance/6 or 4/6 1 horizontal unit = distance/6 or 7/6 so then given the ratio is 1:5 the point R is 1 horizontal unit to the right of E and 1 vertical unit below E this should allow you to find the coordinates of R hope it makes sense
