True or False? Y varies directly with x and y = -9 when x = 3. When y = 27, the value of x is 9.
@annjewell1998 I'm a bit confused on the way your problem is written. When you say varies, do you mean dependent? Like whether Y is dependent on x and x is dependent on y? Or am I not thinking about this correctly?
I honestly don't know. :/
I'm fairly sure that y is dependent on x and x is independent from y. So the value of y changes based on x, but the value of x doesnt change based on the value of y.
@triciaal Can you help with this?
@annjewell1998 Try reading this http://www.sparknotes.com/math/algebra1/variation/section1.rhtml
Okay i will, thank you
@annjewell1998 So the website made me understand a bit more. We are supposed to calculate the ratio for when y = -9 when x = 3. Then, find out if the value of y is correct when x is increased by 6. When y = 27, the value of x is 9.
We are simply supposed to find out whether y = 27 when x is 9.
Annjewell, Based on the link @Needhelpstudying just sent, can you tell what is the ratio of Y/X for x=3 and y=-9?
@annjewell1998 Basically, find the ratio by divided -9 from 3. -9 / 3 is -3, and the ratio would be -3:1, I think. @Yavar Would the ratio of the original problem be -3:1? My brain just overloaded from too many thoughts about math and video games.
