If I tell you that kidney helps conserve water by sending signals to the hypothalamus, which then sends signals to the pituitary to release ADH (anti-diuretic hormone), so that aquaporins (little water channels) on the collecting duct opens and water is reabsorbed, does it help with answering this question?
