OpenStudy (alivejeremy):
all i did was solve it
OpenStudy (anonymous):

@ninaa2 what grade are you in??
OpenStudy (anonymous):
8th
OpenStudy (anonymous):
The first step is to get all the like terms to the same side. The terms with x are like terms, and the terms without x are like terms. Do you understand how to do this?
OpenStudy (alivejeremy):
4x +7 = 11x +5 x =2/7
OpenStudy (mathmale):
@alivejeremy : Unless you quit your joking / spamming and give ninaa2 some serious help, please stay out of this discussion.

wat?
OpenStudy (anonymous):
yes, so \[11x-4x=-5+7\] ?
OpenStudy (alivejeremy):
OpenStudy (alivejeremy):
look at that
OpenStudy (anonymous):
The left side of that is correct, take a second look at the right side though.

@mathmale are u joking or nah
OpenStudy (anonymous):
i'm not sure what's wrong with the right side.. because you have to put the positive 5 on the other side so it becomes negative.. or am i wrong?
OpenStudy (alivejeremy):
did u look at it
OpenStudy (anonymous):
Right, so then you can just simplify both sides and get:
7x=2
Then to get the x alone you just divide by 7 and have your answer.
OpenStudy (anonymous):
I made a mistake the first time I looked at what you posted. The right side is correct, sorry about that.

that gives you 3.5, but then when you add 3.5 to the x the sides don't add up..
OpenStudy (anonymous):
it;s fine, don't worry about it
OpenStudy (anonymous):
So if you divide both sides by 7, you should get:
x=2/7
3.5 would be 7/2.
OpenStudy (anonymous):
oh right sorry.. so 0,28571429?
OpenStudy (anonymous):
Right!

but the sides don't add up to each other once i put the number as x
OpenStudy (anonymous):
They should, here's how it looks:
4(2/7)+7=11(2/7)+5
8/7+7=22/7+5
8/7+49/7=22/7+35/7
57/7=57/7
OpenStudy (anonymous):
ah okay i see, thank you so much! i was seriously stuck on this problem forever, thank you again!
