What is the equation of the following graph in vertex form? parabolic function going down from the left and turning at the point negative one comma zero and going up through the point zero comma one and continuing towards infinity Courtesy of Texas Instruments y = (x − 1)2 y = (x − 1)2 + 1 y = (x + 1)2 − 1 y = (x + 1)2
Well, Ready?

Very good. Do you know what's the graph of a simple parapolic function? I mean \[y=x^{2}\]
What?
:) Can you draw the graph of the function below? \[y=^{2}\]
idk how :(
\[y=x^{2}\]
ok, that's exactly why you can't answer to that question. This is the graph of the function \[y=x^{2}\]
Take a look at it. We are going to understand it better. Take a look well and when u're done let me know.
done?
@princesssleelee you must have seen the the image I sent. Haven't u?
Let me know when you're back.
hi, these r your options? y = (x − 1)2 y = (x − 1)2 + 1 y = (x + 1)2 − 1 y = (x + 1)2
Yes
it's too easy look at (0,1) point....y=1 when x=0 ok?
so put 1 instead of y and 0 instead of x in your options, then you will find the right answer ok?
@Ali0094 Hi, as you see she doesn't know anything about Parabolic Function, or she might have forgotten it. it's way better idea to help her Understand. This way she'll be able to solve similar questions too.
my way is right to solve any other questions like this....
in my way, when you have one or two point of the graph ...you should put them in your options and check them one by one...this way is easy and fast...good luck

yes, I completely know the meaning behind "Nokteh", I'm a "Konkoor " physics teacher. But for someone who has not even some basic knowledge on a subject it's better to make it more understandable with basic rules and laws.

i'm so sorry about speaking and chatting in Persian here...
@ali0094 and @Yavar: This exchange of yours is one of the worst I've seen in terms of ignoring the needs of the student and going off on a tangent of your own. Would you kindly restrict your use of Persian to private conversations, and do not criticize the student (as you have done here). Thank you.
@princesssleelee : Perhaps I can help you with the problem you posted an hour ago. I'd suggest that you sketch a graph initially showing the 2 given points through which the parabola goes. They are (-1,0) and (0,1). Please note that "turning point" means "vertex" in this context. Thus, the vertex of this parabola is located at (-1,0). |dw:1451088631638:dw|
