What is the slope of the line that passes through 4, 1 and 7, -2? 1/3 1 -1 -1/3?
Hi welcome to opentudy :) Use the slope formula \[\LARGE \frac{y_2-y_1}{x_2-x_1}=slope\]
Are you familiar with that?
Yes but idr how to do it
Ok can you start by tell me what: y1=? y2=? x1=? x2=? Can you tell which values correspond with each?
(4, 1) ( 7, -2) (x1,y1)(x2,y2) See if this helps
Okay, I get 5?
How did you get that?
4-1/7- -2
Not quite the way ordered pairs work are like this (x,y) (x1,y1) So we have: x1=4 x2=7 y1=1 y2=-2 \[\LARGE \frac{y_2-y_1}{x_2-x_1}=slope\] \[\LARGE \frac{-2-1}{7-4}=slope\] Now solve and find the slope :)
Ohh ok, -1?
yes well done :)
Thank you! :)
