You toss five fair coins. The probability that all five coins land heads is ______??
Assuming the coins are truly fair, the probability of getting 5 heads on all 5 coins are 1/2^5
I just figured it out, thank you
think of it like you have a 50% chance of having 1 coin land on heads so multiply 1/2 5 times.
could you help me with another?
sure, throw em at me =)
Two six-sided fair dice are rolled simultaneously. The probability that the sum of the two numbers rolled is greater than 3, given that the sum of the numbers is not greater than 5, is _______. The probability that one of the numbers is a 6 and the sum of the two numbers is an odd number is _______.
ok for this question you want to list out all the possibilities of the dice. Do you know how many possibilities there are?
36 possibilities
close, but not correct. unless order doesn't matter and you can count repeated ones as another possibility as well.
6*6 is 36 though so wouldnt that be how many possibilities there are?
if you do not count any repeats, it's not 36, it would be 6+5+4+3+2+1 which is 21.
oh okay whats the next step?
the next step would be to get the sum of each and every single result and circle the ones that match your question and divide that by the total amount of possibilities which is 21.
im really confused
i wrote out the possiblities, i got 4 possibilities that in which the sum is greater than 3 but not greater than 5. so that would be 4/21? here are the answer choices for that one 3/10, 7/10, 3/4, 5/6, 9/10
sorry don't mind me, i was a bit confused there as well.
Yes and the possibilities I got were 1&3, 1&4, 2&2, 2&3 theres only 4?
ok, lets try 36?
4/36=1/9 still doesnt fit the answer choices :( ----> 3/10, 7/10, 3/4, 5/6, 9/10
no no, there will be more then. since we get repeats.
okay so i count the repeats?
mhm
then i get 7/36 which cant be reduced? and its not an answer choice
9/36 would be 1/4 which still isnt an answer choice?
wops, cross-eyed again
I'm really not sure then. I hope your teacher or someone else can explain this question a lot better.
Well its an online credit recovery class this is the last question :/
do the 2nd part first.
i already got the 2nd part its 1/12
the first part is a headache.
yup ima just guess hopefully i pass
ok good luck =)
