The answer is Sales ($ millions). Time can be independent and in this case, the time (amount of years) that go by influences the amount of Sales (profit) are earned. Names of the variables in a 2-dimensional coordinate plane.

Remember the three letters: HAI
HAI: horizontal, abscissa, independent

That leaves:
VOD: vertical, ordinate, dependent
