Chapter 4: The Breaking Point
As I get up Joseph comes running down the hallway. Joseph. The craziest, funniest, person with the best attitude about anything in the entire world-guy. He stops right in front of me because he knows something is wrong. "What happened? Are you going to be okay?" "Yeah, I'll be fine." "But you aren't fine." "What's wrong?" "I don't want to talk about it!" "Alright, alright...I would stay but I'm running seriously late for class anyway. Text me if you need anything. Okay?" Joseph is the kind of guy who is always there for you. Even if you just had an argument with him and need to cry, he would be there. That's just the way he is. "I will," I reply. Just then Dee runs out of the classroom. "I'm sorry," He says. "I didn't mean...That wasn't...I'm sorry." "It's fine. I'll be fine." "I'm gay," Dee says. "Really?" Joseph, Kahleb, and I say in chorus. "Okay, I have to go. Later Savvy, later Kahleb, later uhhhh gay dude," and he walks off to his class. "I should go get my video ready," Kahleb says. "Are you going to be okay?" "Yeah. I'll be fine, you go." He walks around Dee while giving him the 'if you touch him I break you' look. The door closes after Kahleb. "Look, I'm really sorry that I said anything. Please don't hate me." "I don't hate you. You just...you ask a lot of questions, and your eyes look the exact same as the person who killed my parents." "Holy pellet. Your parents were actually murdered?" "Yeah when I was eight they were murdered right in front of me. It's one of the reasons I think I can't dream." "Can I...I know we just met but..." and then he leans forward and hugs me. The hug is strong and more grounded than my emotions. I end up hugging back. I put my arms around his neck as Kahleb walks back out. I push Dee away from me when I realize what just happened. "We have permission to go," and just like that, Kahleb takes my hand and leads me out of the school.... ___________________________________________________________________ Kahleb drives me home after that because my battery went dead and I wouldn't be able to concentrate driving anyway. He held my hand the entire way and we both know that he's like a brother so it's definitely more for comfort. We bicker while I give him the directions he already knows. "Left. No! OTHER LEFT!" He's faking being annoyed, but there is humor in his eyes. "Who was that guy that was outside of broadcasting class? The one who came up to you and asked what was going on" "Oh, that was Joseph," I reply. "Tell me about him." "He hates his name being spelled J-o-e-s-e-p-h. He will insist that it is J-o-s-e-p-h. He loves to draw. Mostly Pokémon characters. He loves making bad jokes and laughing at them. His laugh must be contagious though, because we all end up laughing at them. He frequently gets nosebleeds. He's horrible at card games until he understands them one hundred percent, and once he does, he kicks everyone's retrice I thought you knew him?" "No. I mean, I know him...but I don't know him." "Ah..." I say. "This is your house right?" He asks me sarcastically with a raised eyebrow knowing fully that this is my house because hes only been there for just about everyday in the past five years. "Yeah," I say sadly. He hugs me tight and I walk inside only to find Brenna laying on the couch in my living room. Brenna is my very best female-friend but she has a bad habit of making herself welcome in my house without asking because the only people who come here are the cleaners and my nanny who was with me when my parents died. She occasionally checks on me to make sure I'm not dying plus she owns my estate because I'm not quite of age yet. "Brenna," I say trying to get her attention. She probably got here before me and fell asleep. "BRENNA!" I yell, once more trying to get her to wake up. Normally her sleeping on the couch would be fine, Except she wasn't breathing.
