OpenStudy (onew12):

3x - 4y = 7 3x + 2y = -5 When the second equation is subtracted from the first, the resulting equation is _____. -6y = -12 -6y = 12 -2y = -12 2y = 12 I tried but I can't get it.

OpenStudy (dannyo19):

Well combine the like terms 3x-3x -4y - +2y and 7 - -5

OpenStudy (onew12):

I can't get -4y - +2y

OpenStudy (dannyo19):

You can though... It's the same thing as -4y-2y ... In fact -4y-2y is equivalent to -4y---2y

OpenStudy (onew12):

-6y = 12 is that correct??

OpenStudy (dannyo19):

What is -(-2)= ?

OpenStudy (onew12):

+2 I think

OpenStudy (dannyo19):

Yes, so you got it. Each negative yields the opposite of the number with one less.

OpenStudy (onew12):

Thank you very much! :D

OpenStudy (dannyo19):

You're very welcome!
