OpenStudy (hope210):

Please help :) What is the solution set of {x | x < -3} ∩ {x | x > 5}? A. all numbers except -3 and 5 B. the numbers between -3 and 5 C. the empty set D. all real numbers

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Do you know what all the symbols mean

OpenStudy (hope210):

Yea kind of.I get them mixed up sometimes

OpenStudy (anonymous):

∩ means you want what is in common

OpenStudy (anonymous):

{x | x < -3} this is: the set of elements x such that x is less than -3

OpenStudy (anonymous):

x < -3 and x > 5 What is a number that satisfies both?

OpenStudy (triciaal):

can you show x less than -3 on the number line? can you show x greater than 5 on the same number line? the "n" means the intersection as in where they overlap. Do you have any values of x in the "overlap"?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

lol

OpenStudy (welshfella):

eg -4,-5 .... satisfies <-3 6, 7 ...... satisfies > 5

OpenStudy (welshfella):

- is there an overlap?
