A friend tells you that once he lived in a place where during parts of the year it was light all day long. what climate zone might he have lived in?

I think the friend would have lived in polar climatic zone as in these places there's a constant sunrise and sunset which means 6 months of day and 6 months of night because the Earth tilts on it's axis with the poles pointing toward and away from the sun.So for the people living in polar regions it's either shining all day, or not, and sometimes they have shortened days and nights.
