Aerobic vs fermentation. What are the differences and similarities?
Some of the similarities could be that: 1) Both Aerobic Respiration and Fermentation go through Glycolysis, which takes place in the cytosol. 2) Both Aerobic Respiration and Fermentation have byproducts. 3) Both Aerobic Respiration and Fermentation release energy. Differences: 1) Aerobic Respiration differs from Fermentation because Aerobic has a supply of oxygen and therefore goes through the Krebs Cycle and Oxidative Phosphorylation, whereas Fermentation goes through Glycolysis over and over again in order to produce NADH that can be recycled for a charge of 2 ATP. 2) Aerobic produces more ~34 ATP whereas Fermentation produces 2 ATP. 3) Different byproducts; Aerobic produces CO2 alongside with other products, Fermentation either produces lactate or ethanol. Hope I helped. This is my first response, so if you do reply, please tell me what i could change. Thanks! :)
