OpenStudy (dezandalf42714):

PLEASE??? I dont understand how to do this equation. Can anyone help me through it? A photo is 6 inches long. Kamala enlarged the photo so that it is twelve inches long. By keeping the same proportion of the photo, what would be the width of the photo if the enlarged photo is 8 inches wide? What kind of relationship is this? Identify the variables. Show your work and answer the original question.

OpenStudy (susanna):

It's a proportion.\[\frac{ 6 }{ x }=\frac{ 12 }{ 8}\]

OpenStudy (susanna):

cross multiply and solve for x.

OpenStudy (dezandalf42714):

oooooh ok

OpenStudy (dezandalf42714):

so 6 x 8 = 48 then what would you multiply by the 12?

OpenStudy (susanna):

x

OpenStudy (susanna):

so it would look like 12x=48

OpenStudy (dezandalf42714):

ok

OpenStudy (susanna):

Now, divide both sides by 12

OpenStudy (dezandalf42714):

k once second

OpenStudy (dezandalf42714):

so I got 4

OpenStudy (susanna):

yes, the whole answer is x=4.

OpenStudy (dezandalf42714):

Thanks so much!!

OpenStudy (susanna):

no prob what grade are you in?

OpenStudy (dezandalf42714):

7th

OpenStudy (susanna):

I'm in 12th

OpenStudy (dezandalf42714):

well thanks for explaining. I am just learning this and having a little bit of trouble.

OpenStudy (susanna):

sure

OpenStudy (dezandalf42714):

can you help me with another one? I have some figured out but I am not sure if its right. Write a scenario that involves an inverse relationship. What are your variables? What is the constant of variation? Write the inverse relationship to the scenario. My ans. A scenario that would involve an inverse relationship would be If I took a trip somewhere and my variables will be the distance driven..d and the amount of gas used to get to my destination....g. My constant variation would be the distance driven.
