Question 10 When is nuclear decay by alpha particle emission more common in atoms? have an atomic number greater than 83 have a proton to neutron ratio of greater than 3:1 have an atomic number less than 83 have more electrons than protons

OpenStudy (greatlife44):

\[\alpha^{4}_{2} = Alpha particle \]

OpenStudy (greatlife44):

\[\alpha ^{mass number}_{atomic number}\]

OpenStudy (greatlife44):

top number 4 is our mass number protons+neutrons while the bottom number is our atomic number protons. when an alpha particle is released, it's usually for heavier nuclei, i.e. there's just too much of everything.
