What does weight training do?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Specifically, weight training conditions your muscles to become stronger. While athletes like football players, cross country/track runners, etc., weight lifters have stronger, shorter bursts of energy due to the type of training. The burning sensation in your muscles that you feel during lifting weights is due to a build up of lactic acids. That's the, "Pumped," feeling that weight lifters receive. Overall, weight training helps to keep you in shape. However, with that being said, it helps with stronger (yet shorter) bursts of great strength, as opposed to a regular military style PT which gives less, yet longer lasting, energy.
