OpenStudy (graciek):

Use cross products to see if each pair of ratios forms a proportion. Replace each box with = or ≠ 7/5 __ 15/10 A. = B. ≠ 6\8 __ 15/20 A. = B. ≠

OpenStudy (marihelenh):

Simplify the fractions. If they come out equal, they will be the =. If not, use the unequal sign.

OpenStudy (marihelenh):

Do you know how to simplify?

OpenStudy (graciek):

Not really...

OpenStudy (marihelenh):

Ok, for 6/8, what is a common factor that they both have?

OpenStudy (graciek):

2

OpenStudy (marihelenh):

Great, so divide each side by two

OpenStudy (graciek):

3/4

OpenStudy (marihelenh):

Perfect, now what is a common factor of 15 and 20

OpenStudy (graciek):

5

OpenStudy (marihelenh):

And divide by 5

OpenStudy (graciek):

3/5

OpenStudy (marihelenh):

20/5 is equal to 4, so you would have 3/4

OpenStudy (graciek):

I know how to do this but I don't really get what the signs mean

OpenStudy (marihelenh):

Ok, so the = sign means that the numbers on both sides are equal. The other states that they aren't the same. It would be 2=2 and \[3\neq4\]

OpenStudy (graciek):

Ooh

OpenStudy (marihelenh):

So, for your problem, 6/8 turns into 3/4 and 15/20 turns into 3/4. 3/4 = 3/4

OpenStudy (marihelenh):

So the second question is A because they are equal. For the first question, you can't simplify 7/5, but you can simplify 15/10. Simplify that and see if it is equal to 7/5. If they are equal the answer is A, if they are different, it is B

OpenStudy (marihelenh):

Let me know what you get.
