Plz help !!

3 minus 20 is 17....
Hey Selena :) Notice that figures DEF and GHJ are identical, just in different locations. So angle E and angle H are the same. (x+15) = (3x-20) Solve for x.
@zepdrix my equation would be x+15+3x-20 +180 ??
No need to include 180, we're not doing anything with ALL of the angles. The size of angle E is (x+15) The size of angle H is (3x-20) E and H have the same angle measure since the figures are congruent, so we just set those angle measures equal to one another, x+15 = 3x-20 solve for x. Get that 180 out of there :) lol
\(\large\rm x+15=3x-20\) What would be a good first step? Get all the x's on one side maybe?
kk I'll solve for x now
First I'll subtract 15 from 15 and then from 20
Sure, whatever works for you :) In this type of problem, I would recommend moving the x's first, and moving the smaller x, so you don't end up with a negative amount of x's. So my first step would be subtracting x from each side. Both methods are fine though
Now, I have x = 3x + 35
@zepdrix
Woops, you subtracted 15 from -20, so you actually should have x = 3x - 35 Ok I guess we need to get all the x's on the same side now. We'll have to move the 3x since it's with some other stuff.
Subtract 3x from each side as a next step.
kk
Now, I have -2=35
If you have x and you take away 3x from that, you end up with -2x, not just -2. Imagine that the x is a "thing", like an apple. If you have 1apple and you subtract 3apples, you end up with -2apples, not just -2, that doesn't make sense, you were counting a thing. And you also dropped the negative that was on the 35, gotta keep track of these things!! :O -2x = -35
Moving the x's first would've made this problem a lot easier :( But we're almost done anyway :)
OMG I just noticed the fact that I made an error
You have a -2 which is `multiplying` your x, to get your x alone, you do the inverse of that operation being applied to x, so we'll `divide` both sides by -2, ya?
Yeah, I'll do that right now
@zepdrix I got 17.5 as my final answer
Ok great, that's not our final answer though. That is the value of x. They want to know the measure of angle H. H = 3x-20 and we've so far determined that x=17.5
@zepdrix so the next step would be to ?
Plug in your x value :p
\[\large\rm \color{orangered}{x=17.5}\]\[\large\rm \angle H=3\color{orangered}{x}-20\]\[\large\rm \angle H=?\]
32.5 ?
Yes good job :) Sorry I ran off lol
It's okay really appreciated your help though XD !!!
