A study found that 23% of the cars manufactured last year were SUVs, 13% of the cars manufactured were white, and 2% of the cars manufactured were white SUVs. To the nearest whole percent, what is the probability that a car is an SUV, given that it is white? a. 9% b.15% c.21% d.57%

@marihelenh

OpenStudy (marihelenh):

Alright, ignore the 13 percent, it doesn't have to do with SUVs.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok

OpenStudy (marihelenh):

Only 2 percent of the SUVs were white, and 23 percent of cars were SUVs. To solve this, all you need to do is divide 2/23

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok so i got .086 so i rounded and got a.9%

OpenStudy (marihelenh):

Wait a sec

OpenStudy (marihelenh):

I did this backwards.

OpenStudy (marihelenh):

We know that the car is white. That is the given, so it will be the denom.

OpenStudy (marihelenh):

And only 2 percent of white cars are SUVs, so it would be 2/13.

OpenStudy (marihelenh):

Have @mathstudent55 check that to make sure.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so its 15%

OpenStudy (marihelenh):

I believe so

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@mathstudent55 does it look right

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@mathstudent55

OpenStudy (marihelenh):

Wow. I am pretty sure that is right though

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok thank you @marihelenh
