The picture below shows a right-triangle-shaped charging stand for a gaming system:

OpenStudy (christina166):

Which expression shows the height, AC, of the charging stand? 3 divided by cos 50 degrees 3 tan 50° 3 divided by tan 50 degrees 3 cos 50°

OpenStudy (christina166):

@tkhunny @ganeshie8 Please help!

@Michele_Laino @lxoser

@zepdrix

OpenStudy (neonumbrella5115):

So if you wanted to solve that triangle that is shown, what would be the first step?

OpenStudy (tkhunny):

You MUST memorize the Right Triangle Definitions of Sine, Cosine, and Tangent. The last will solve this problem.

OpenStudy (christina166):

we use SOHCAHTOA and wouldn't it be the tangent formula?

OpenStudy (neonumbrella5115):

Yes, it would so your equation would look like:\[\tan 50=\frac{ x }{ 3 }\]Does that make sense? And then, all you would do is simply that. What would that look like simplified?

OpenStudy (christina166):

Thank you!!! the question only asks for this 3 divided by cos 50 degrees 3 tan 50° 3 divided by tan 50 degrees 3 cos 50°

OpenStudy (christina166):

so it would be C?

OpenStudy (neonumbrella5115):

So when you simplify this equation, you need to isolate the x. To do that you would multiply each side by 3, making your answer \[3\times \tan50\] Also known as: B C was there to trick you. :D

OpenStudy (tkhunny):

The question asks for you to understand the right triangle definition of the tangent. Use the expression given above and find it.

OpenStudy (christina166):

ohhh ok thank you !!!
